Wheelers out and about making their mark…

Non more so than young Ben Kellet who took an excellent 2nd place in the Eric Biddulph Memorial Road Race at the weekend. The event was organised by Huddersfield Star Wheelers and was open to 3rd and 4th cat riders. Covering 53km of undulating terrain made even harder by the cold and wind Ben stayed in the front pack until he made a move to take to the front on the 3rd lap. Local cyclist Mark Buckingham and another cyclist went with him until near the end when Mark caught Ben. Still 2nd place was an excellent result for our Junior rider.

The Paul Milnes Cycles Summer Cyclo Cross Series race was held at a local High school, where young Wheeler Amira Mellor (11) rode. Amira took part in the Winter series and enjoyed it so decided to give this a go. She had a great ride to come in 3rd rider overall and first girl beaten only by the U12 Yorkshire champion Chris Barnes and an older rider from the U14′s. She is now looking forward to her next race a week on Wednesday.

The Wheelers weekly Sovereign 10 had to be shortened last week due to gas works on the road. This put the course at around 4.5 miles making it a hard short ride for the regulars who still took part. Results:-
